What to know before you turn 65

1

Your 7-month window

Your Initial Enrollment Period starts 3 months before the month you turn 65, includes your birthday month, and lasts 3 months after. Signing up inside it helps you avoid delays and possible late penalties.

2

Still working at 65?

If you have coverage through your own or your spouse's employer, you may not need to sign up for every part right away. It depends on the size of the employer and the kind of coverage, so check before you decide.

3

Original Medicare vs. Medicare Advantage

Original Medicare (Parts A and B) covers hospital and doctor visits but not everything. Many people add a Medigap supplement plan to fill gaps, or choose Medicare Advantage, an all-in-one plan from a private insurer. We explain how each works and what to weigh.

4

Prescriptions and your doctors

Your medications and the doctors you want to keep should drive your choice. We help you check them before you enroll.

5

Social Security timing

When you claim Social Security can change your monthly check for life, and it connects to your Medicare decisions. We walk through both together.
